Osteotome is the first release from the audio team of They Came from Hell (Philippe Gerber and Chris Gilmore). The two-track release, with each composer contributing a track, was conceived as a way to feature some of the sounds from their latest sample library, Symphysiotomy. Sticking to their ethos to create the sounds of the horrific, the supernatural, the nightmarish, the dreadful and the ghostly, Osteotome more than delivers. Chris Gilmore’s track ‘Excision’ marries sinister strings, dark drones as well as plenty of sounds from Symphysiotomy to create a nightmarish and foreboding track. Philippe Gerber’s track, ‘The Bone Cutter’, spends its 2:30 runtime ratcheting up the tension but never releases it. Layer by layer, droning synths and his signature use of percussion build into a dense, oppressive and claustrophobic track.
